6. Remove the timing cover. 7. Replace the Idler, tensioner (Allen socket for both) and crankshaft pulley – you will need a puller for that one (see the image below, puller and Allen bolts) . 8. Place each part in its place, do not tighten them yet. Install the new belt. The 300Tdi was replaced in 1998 by the 5-cylinder Td5, bringing to an end the line of Land Rover 4-cylinder engines that can be traced back to 1957. The Td5 engine was loosely based on the Rover Group's L-series diesel engine. The 300Tdi remained in production in Brazil, and was offered as an option on rest of world (non-UK/Europe) models.Posted March 20, 2016. Last year I took our 1994 Defender 110 CSW down to Rome over the alps. At the end of the long pull up hill the oil warning light flickered on. Once the engine had cooled it went off and we had no problems on the return journey to the UK (apparent from a cooked alternator!). Ihad no problems at all for the rest of the year
After the Death Valley towing trip (working the engine hard seems to increase DEF consumption), the Disco asked for more fluid, and we went back to Land Rover South Bay, who charged us $165 for a Hi, i have the 2.5TD 19J engine in my 1989 110. It has clocked up 143,600 miles. I have the usual puff of smoke on start up and small amount of black stuff on acceleration. I change oil at about every 3000 miles, add wynns oil treatment. I have put in new injectors and heaters within the last month as i don`t think they had ever been changed. The turbo went on quite easy and everything fitted without any problems apart from the dipstick. After taking it up the road its making a high pitch noise (drowns out the simex) when ever you put your foot down and the boost presure goes up. the turbo come off a cooked 300tdi and im 99% sure that ive bought and fitted a duff turbo but before i 300 TDI is a workhorse but not my favorite engine I recently sold my Defender 110 with a 300TDI. Even a newly rebuilt motor with 8k on it and performing at the upper end of the possible continuum was about a 6-7 on a scale of 1-10 in my option. If I was building from scratch I would seriously consider spending the money on a small block chevy V8. Check the pipe from the base of the cyclone to the block. My cyclone fell apart, blocked the drain pipe, and the sump pressurised, blowing oil through the turbo seal. Yours will probably not be that, but, either way, check that pipe. Then the cyclone itself. Then the drain pipe from the turbo.difflock123. Big Landy Fan.
